Apparently Lou Henry Hoover was awesome.
To date, she is the only first lady to have spoken any Asian language (Chinese).
She liked camping, horses, hunting, taxidermy, and rocks/mining.
She was the only female geology major at Stanford University in 1894.
She and her husband translated a 16th-century encyclopedia of mining and metallurgy. The translation they published in 1912 is still in print and is the standard English translation of the work.
In 1919, she was decorated by King Albert I of Belgium for her work in providing relief for Belgian refugees during World War I.
She was the national president of the Girl Scouts of the USA from 1922 to 1925, and has a Girl Scout camp and several schools named after her.
She was the first First Lady to participate in regular radio broadcasts, where she advocated for volunteerism and talked about the Girl Scouts.
